Tim:

Thanks for the notice! Will you be in Norfolk for the AGLCA meeting in May? I will be glad to chat with you any time, though. I believe that we made a phenomenal choice for a boat to do the loop. It performed well under all challenges and the costs (care and feeding) were not prohibitive. Give me a ring. I sent over my cell number under different cover.

Joe

Hi Joe,

I stumbled upon your blog while researching Tiara Yachts and was fascinated with MV Sequel’s great Loop adventure – both before and during. Thank you for letting me vicariously travel along on your trip.

I live in St Pete, FL and became enamored with Looping after crewing for a friend who purchased a trawler in Buffalo, NY and then brought it to St Pete via the Erie Canal and Intracoastal Waterway. My wife and I did the Long Island to Norfolk leg – guess we were backwards loopers!

Anyway, more to the point as I did not see this in any of your write-ups. We are looking at the 3500 Sovran and have a concern about the closed helm getting too hot in our FL summers. (small vent window, center windscreen, is all I can see in various photos for the 2008 – we have not been on it yet) Of course, the sales folks insist the helm A/C unit will keep up but that requires running the gen set. I would rather breath the fresh air. They then point to the small window and say “that provides great flow thru”. I just don’t see how that can be when in a no wake zone and the temp is 90F.

So I was hoping to get an opinion on the following questions from someone who encountered all weather conditions – hot. cold, rainy, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1. Does your helm have several openings in the windscreen or just the center one that I have seen online.
2. Do the openings provide sufficient airflow to keep crew comfortable or do you have to quickly move to A/C?
3. Does your helm have one or two A/C units and do they keep-up on hot days?
4. What does your boat have to enclose the rear of the helm (I have seen Eisen glass canopies as well as more rigid lexan panels.)

Please accept my congratulations on a truly great accomplishment and thank you for sharing it with us.

Best regards,

Tim Connolly

Dear Edie and Joe,

Your journey will finish tomorrow.
It has given us a great deal of pleasure reading your log and looking at the great photos.
We are so used to getting up in the morning and first checking to see where you are.
It has given us almost 10 months of enjoyment.
Of course seeing you during your travels was great.
Tomorrow you will be sleeping at your Riverside home instead of on the water.
Look forward to seeing you soon.

With much love,

Evelyn and David
